Mastering the Mind to Heal the Body with Author Brandy Gillmore, California
On June 4th, 2024, Edge Talk Radio welcomed author, researcher, and mind-body healing expert Brandy Gillmore from California for a fascinating conversation about the connection between the mind and body, human energy, emotions, intuition, and the potential role our minds may play in our physical well-being.
Brandy's interest in mind-body healing began through an experience that completely changed the direction of her life. After a car accident followed by a serious fall in 2003, she went from being active and athletic to relying on a wheelchair, walker, and cane while living with severe chronic pain. What she initially thought would be a short recovery stretched into more than six years.
As doctor appointments and specialists failed to provide the recovery she hoped for, research became a lifeline. Brandy began investigating everything she could find, trying numerous approaches along the way. A pivotal moment came after she was excluded from a medical research study because doctors did not expect her condition to improve. Feeling devastated, she found herself thinking about the placebo effect and the fact that the mind could apparently influence physical outcomes in ways she didn't yet understand.
That question sent her deeper into research. She explored meditation, hypnosis, positive thinking, guided imagery, neuroscience, emotions, the placebo effect and other approaches, but she said simply trying to believe she was healed wasn't enough. Her goal became understanding what was actually happening within the mind and body and determining what she needed to change to create meaningful results.
Eventually, Brandy began focusing heavily on emotions and the subconscious mind. She pointed to familiar examples of the body's response to emotion—a racing heart during panic, a flushed face from embarrassment, or other immediate physical reactions—as evidence that emotions can have measurable physical effects. She began investigating whether deeper emotional patterns could also influence the body and became particularly interested in identifying combinations of emotions and subconscious patterns.
Brandy emphasized throughout the conversation that her approach isn't about telling people to stop seeing their doctors. Instead, she encourages people to continue appropriate medical care while becoming more aware of their minds, emotions, and internal patterns. She described health challenges as an opportunity to look deeper at what may be happening emotionally and mentally rather than focusing exclusively on the physical experience.
Another fascinating part of the conversation centered around Brandy's use of medical thermal imaging. Because she knew skeptics might question whether someone had actually experienced a change in pain, she wanted a way to visually document physical changes. She described working with thermography while guiding people through her mind-body techniques and observing changes in thermal images alongside reported changes in pain.
The conversation then moved into research surrounding the light energy emitted by living organisms. Brandy discussed early research dating back to the 1920s into what was originally called mitogenetic radiation and later became associated with the term biophotons. She explained that extremely sensitive equipment can detect ultraweak light emissions from living biological systems and pointed listeners toward scientific research databases where they could explore the subject further.
For Brandy, this research was particularly meaningful because it offered another way of looking at human energy outside of purely spiritual terminology. She discussed research exploring whether factors such as emotions, mental imagery, and health conditions may correspond with changes in these ultraweak photon emissions. Her message was that areas often dismissed as "woo-woo" can sometimes lead to scientific questions worth investigating.
Throughout the interview, Brandy continually returned to empowerment. She doesn't describe herself as healing another person; instead, she believes people have a greater ability to influence their own well-being than many realize. She compared this shift in perception to the four-minute mile: once something previously believed impossible is demonstrated, it can change what other people believe may be possible for themselves.
Brandy calls this emerging awareness the "Human Potential Revolution"—a time when people are beginning to question long-held assumptions about what human beings are capable of. Her hope is that greater understanding of the mind-body connection, emotions, energy, and human potential will encourage more research while also inspiring individuals to become active participants in their own well-being.
What I Learned From Brandy Gillmore
Since the 1920s, researchers have been studying the extremely faint light energy emitted by living organisms, an area of research often associated today with biophotons. I found it fascinating to learn that research into these emissions continues and that scientific studies can be explored through research databases connected with institutions such as the Smithsonian and Harvard. The conversation opened my mind even further to the possibilities of the mind-body connection and the idea that aspects of human energy can actually be measured and studied.
